Excerpts

Many actors get a rare chance to play what they really are. How do you feel?

When you are playing yourself that doesn’t mean you are not acting. Right now we are all acting as ourselves. The point is how we make it interesting on screen. In the film I’m not playing Imran, I’m playing Abhay, the character is similar to me.

Was the similarity with the character Abhay you play in the film was the prime motivation to do ‘Break Ke Bad’?

No, that’s not the reason. You play characters, sometimes you are like them and sometimes you are not. I agreed to do ‘Break Ke Baad’ because I found it to be good and entertaining.

Initially you where not interested in doing the film? What was the reason?

I said no in the beginning because I didn’t like the script. I met Danish and found that he is intelligent and will make a good film one day but that time said no because I didn’t like the script.

Then what made you say yes

We met again. Danish said he has made changes and whether I would like to hear. I said okay…. Danish changed the second half and I started liking it, feeling the character and just loved it. I went through the script in one and half hours and immediately gave a call to Danish saying that I would love to do the film.

How was working with Deepika Padukone?

It was a rare pleasure. She is so hard working and constantly she wants to improve and get better. The best thing to work with Deepika is that first you get better as an actor as she makes sure that you also improve and second you become more hardworking.

So would you like to work with Deepika again?

Oh yes. She is a great co-star to work with.

How do you take the tag of Bollywood prince charming?

Honestly I don’t know how to react. People say, write such things about you. It’s flattering to come to the thought and I am thankful to people for seeing the potential in me.

What you have to say about your contemporary Ranbir?

He is good. He is a better actor and I don’t see any competition as there is space for everyone over here. You have Shahrukh, Salman and Aamir mamu enjoying their space and following. The industry can afford dozen stars in between.

In today’s relationships do you think commitment matters?

Not about today, every day, yesterday, tomorrow. If commitments where not there then there won’t be marriages.

Relationships nowadays are so short termed…

Yeah we read and see many stories in media but for me commitment is the basic requirement to run a healthy relationship.

How you make it work, what tips to make a good date?

I have been dating the same girl for eight and a half years (smiles)... Always use deodorant.
